So the clocks spring forward an hour tonight, the first official sign of British Summertime as we move into spring.
The weather has become wetter and a touch warmer, April showers and all that, and it is a significant time in my business as it’s notorious for being our slow season with many similar companies going under this time of the year.
We have already trimmed back as much as we dare and no job is secure. We can only hope that the housing market picks up soon as that has a direct affect on us.
I spoke to a very elderly lady on the phone this week as she wanted to take advantage of the government grant we were offering. She told me that people are also knocking at her door and cold calling. She said, ‘’I opened the door to a skinhead with a face full of metal.” I had to laugh as she continued, ‘’you just wouldn’t let a scallywag like that cross your threshold.”
She did cheer me some but it also reminded me of the competition that is out there.
I was a little surprised to find out I could do even more to help in the fight against climate change.
I found a site we can all use to plan out a course of action and put our carbon footprint on our planet.
Just click here to see how well you fair with the carbon cutter
My results were a little high as can be seen for my target.
I kicked ass with 'travel' but only because my own health situation meant I work from a local office now and don't travel into London and don't go abroad to meet sponsors or clients.
Today in the UK is Mothering Sunday or Mothers day, a day to say a special thank you to mums everywhere.
For those of us who have lost their mums it’s a day to remember them.
I lost my mum 12 years ago, ten days before my own daughter was born. I can honestly say that not a day goes by when my mother isn’t remembered in one way or another. I don’t need today to exploit me for what should be a ‘normal’ act to do.
I have spoken to many especially on VR who never really had a special relationship with their mothers and at first I found it strange or perhaps hard to understand why. My views have mellowed since and I just thank the Lord that I had the most amazing mother ever.
Following my last entry I have now pulled out both the cooker and the fridge as it prompted a thorough kitchen clean ahead of my schedule.
My spice rack has fallen and shattered as I forgot to remove it from the top of the fridge, as if that wasn’t bad enough I put up a shelf especially for it, so along with the odd diced carrots I have pepper corn pods scattered everywhere along with a variety of other bits and bobs.
Now not only is my kitchen floor clean enough to eat off, it’s bloody tasty as well!
I’m cutting carrots for a shepherds pie. The damn critters have a mind of their own as they shoot off in all directions as I dice them. This says an awful lot for frozen veg in general but that would just be lazy right?!! Now I have to get behind the cooker, fridge and G-d knows where that last one went!
I went to see Alice in Wonderland this week. A good film but not 'great', I kinda felt let down a little as Tim Burton has really done wonders in the past. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it but there just seemed something was missing.
